Now that we're officially getting into the dog days of summer, you might be tempted to leave your beloved pet in the car alone while you run into the supermarket "just for 10 minutes," but here's all the proof you need that no matter how brief, trapping your furry friend in a hot vehicle is never the right thing to do.

North Carolina veterinarian Dr. Ernie Ward conducted an experiment to find out just how miserable the heat makes your cat or dog, and he spoke with HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker on Monday to discuss the results.
