A four-year-old lurcher who has spent four years watching other dogs in the kennel find homes is still looking for loving owners of her own.

Sue was rescued in August 2017 and taken to the RSPCA’s Bath Cats and Dogs.

She was adopted in 2018 but was returned to the shelter not long after because the owner’s circumstances changed.

In four years that Sue, dubbed the UK’s ‘loneliest dog’, has lived in the shelter, 941 others have found loving homes.

INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOUR PET: Former Michael Vick dogs, Sox and Hector, are certified therapy dogs. They now spend their days cheering up people at hospitals, nursing homes, and schools.

But staff have no idea why Sue has not met her match – they say she walks well on the lead, is very affectionate and loves playing with her toys.

Chief Executive of Bath Cats and Dogs Home Rachel Jones said: ‘We’re at a loss as to why poor Sue hasn’t been rehomed.

‘We all absolutely adore her and love taking her out for long walks and giving her lots of attention but we’re desperate to find her own home.’

Yummy! Dogs have about 1,700 taste buds. Humans have approximately 9,000 and cats have around 473.

Sue needs an experienced owner who can help continue her training as she has some challenging behaviours she needs to unlearn.

She has already learnt basic commands like ‘sit’ and ‘paw’ and would easily be able to pick up more.

Her new owner would also need to be comfortable taking her muzzle on and off.

Rachel said: ‘Sue is a sweet and clever pup who can get a little overexcited at times so would benefit from owners who can continue her training.

‘Sue is a chaser so we walk her on a lead with a muzzle and we don’t let her run free when we’re out and about unless we’re in a secure field.’

Although Sue is happy entertaining herself, she would probably prefer to have her owner around most of the time at first, Rachel said.
