A dog took being playful to a new level when she discovered an abandoned sex toy on her morning walk and then refused to let go of it.Lissa Cross, from Canterbury New Zealand, was walking her four-year-old Staffordshire Mastiff cross Huni along the river when she disappeared into some nearby trees.
While this was nothing out of the ordinary, the dog owner had a rude shock when her pup returned moments later clutching a rubber pink toy.Lissa, 48, said she burst into laughter when she realised her pet had made an x-rated find.
Huni was so fond of the sex toy that she would not let go of it for over an hour, despite Lissa’s best efforts to take it from her mouth.
Lissa, a calf rearer, said: ‘I was at the river with her on our usual morning walk, when suddenly she ran into some nearby trees.
‘After a bit of noise she emerged looking pretty happy with herself and this new weapon hanging from her mouth.
‘I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I tried to get her to drop it but she just wouldn’t let it go.’
Did you hear that? Sound frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz). The higher the Hertz, the higher-pitched the sound. Dogs hear best at 8,000 Hz, while humans hear best at around 2,000 Hz.
The mother-of-two said her dog tried to jump into the back seat of her car with the toy in her mouth.
She said that while her pet loves nothing more than hunkering down on a nice chew toy, she was not prepared to let her keep the sex toy, which was covered in dirt.
After an hour of wrangling it from her mouth Huni finally relented, but made sure to bury her new chew toy in a safe place ‘for next time’.
Lissa added: ‘She has always loved rubber dog toys, so she really did not want to let go of it.
‘But when she finally realised she wouldn’t be allowed, she went and buried the thing.
‘I have no idea where it came from or why it was there. But it certainly made me laugh until I cried, it was hilarious.’Lissa posted photographs of Huni’s ‘new toy’ online where it quickly attracted attention. The Facebook post said: ‘Houston we have a problem. The dog found herself a new chew toy at the river and refuses to give it up!! How the hell do I make her understand this one!’
Hundreds of people shared the post, with some dog owners saying their pets had made similar finds.

Many commenters tagged their friends in in an effort to name and shame the original owner of the well-chewed object, but Lissa offered one better. She told the New Zealand Herald that if the culprit behind the abandoned sex toy wants it back, they can find it in the tree line to the left of the entrance onto the riverbed at the Alford Forest Road.
