A skeletal dog is now in recovery after his owner threw him over the locked gates of an animal sanctuary.

Staff at Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary were left stunned when a car pulled up outside and hurled Casper onto the premises on the evening of Halloween.

The lurcher was so thin his bones were protruding through his skin and he had several growths on his body.

He was also suffering from pain in his feet, in part due to his long unclipped nails.

Staff in the shelter had been settling new puppies in for the evening when Casper was cruelly abandoned.

However, they said his condition has now greatly improved after treatment in the sanctuary.

Posting an update from the animal shelter, Twitter account Save Our Scouse Cats wrote that Casper is now ‘safe, comfy and on two hourly feeds’.

They continued:’The vet is coming out to Casper tomorrow to avoid even more stress for him. Dear Casper, you’ve seen the worst of humanity, now you are seeing the best.’

Always keep an ID tag on your pet. Consider getting your pet microchipped as well to help identify him if he is lost or stolen.

Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary, based in Merseyside, also confirmed that Casper had already been donated a ‘big teddy’ and bed, and was enjoying having a ‘mooch’ around the centre.

His plight has touched the hearts of hundreds of social media users, who shared their messages online.
