A skeletal dog is now in recovery after his owner threw him over the locked gates of an animal sanctuary.Staff at Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary were left stunned when a car pulled up outside and hurled Casper onto the premises on the evening of Halloween.
The lurcher was so thin his bones were protruding through his skin and he had several growths on his body.
He was also suffering from pain in his feet, in part due to his long unclipped nails.Staff in the shelter had been settling new puppies in for the evening when Casper was cruelly abandoned.
However, they said his condition has now greatly improved after treatment in the sanctuary.
Posting an update from the animal shelter, Twitter account Save Our Scouse Cats wrote that Casper is now ‘safe, comfy and on two hourly feeds’.Disabled teen with Down's syndrome made to attend 'degrading' assessment at Jobcentre
They continued:’The vet is coming out to Casper tomorrow to avoid even more stress for him. Dear Casper, you’ve seen the worst of humanity, now you are seeing the best.’
Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary, based in Merseyside, also confirmed that Casper had already been donated a ‘big teddy’ and bed, and was enjoying having a ‘mooch’ around the centre.
Watch Out For Your Dogs Feet in the Summer. Hot pavement can burn your dogs paws rather quickly. To see if it’s too hot for your dog place the back of your hand on the pavement – if you can’t hold it there for 5 seconds it’s too hot for your dog. On really hot days consider walking your dog in the woods, on the grass, or waiting til the sun goes down.
His plight has touched the hearts of hundreds of social media users, who shared their messages online.
One person wrote: ‘Oh Casper you beautiful boy. I’m so very sorry humans have treated you this way. Breaks my heart.
‘I know you are now feeling loved and being cared for by amazing people. Sending love hugs and strength. You’re safe now angel.’
Another added: ‘Casper my Love…. you will now have a loving life and be cared for, and brought back to health. So sorry you have had to endure this. Change is coming.’
While a third said: ‘Good God this is awful, poor baby. I just don’t understand at all how anyone could do this. Humans are vile.’
