Saint Bernard Breaks Record for World's Longest Dog Tongue

Mochi is getting tongues wagging, so to speak.

You might want to keep your ice cream cone wayyyy out of reach from this gal: a Saint Bernard named Mochi has been given the title of Longest Tongue on a Dog by the Guinness World Records.

With an incredible tongue measuring at 7.31 inches, the 8-year-old rescue from Sioux Falls, South Dakota is truly something to behold.

Mochi (who also goes by ‘Mo’) and her tongue have some impressive powers. According to statement released by the Guinness World Records, Mo is known to eat quickly and, thanks to her tongue, can sometimes fling food up to two or four feet across a room.

Mochi’s owner, Carla Rickert, says that they have to keep her foot-wide food and water bowls in a tall feeder with a drip pan in an easy-to-clean room to avoid a daily mess.

They also have to give treats to Mochi in a particular manner, as she cannot grab onto them the same way other dogs do. Mochi also runs into the issue of occasionally picking up dirt and debris when she drools or lets her tongue hang out.

But all of this no mind to the Rickert family, who adore their record-breaking dog, calling her a “resilient, happy-go-lucky dog, with a big personality.”

While Mochi has long caught the attention of strangers while out for walks, her tongue now has the fascination of the entire internet.

Even as a celeb, however, Mochi remains “humble” Rickert says. “She never brags or boasts but I know that she is as proud of her new record as we are.”
