Fanny said: ‘We don’t know much about the bacterial infection that caused them to lose an eye, but we paid £427 to have their eyes sewn shut at two months old.
Meeting your new puppy, kitten or any other pet can be an exciting experience. Your pet, however, has some adjusting to do. New sights, smells and sounds can be overwhelming for the little guy and keeping a calm household is important.
‘It went without complication, and now they’re just like any other dogs and are both very spoiled.’
It was a natural decision for Fanny to adopt the pups as soon as she found out they may be killed.
‘When we found out they might be put down, we were all devastated,’ she says.
‘They were adorable puppies, and I couldn’t see why they wanted to put them down.

‘A missing eye means an “imperfect” puppy, and an expensive surgery. A lot of people don’t seem to want to waste their money on such dogs.
‘I’m super glad that we adopted them. They’re so full of life, and I hope that they will be by my side for as long as possible.
‘My sister and I often talk about what would have happened if we hadn’t rescued them, they’re both just small fluffy balls of love, my heart would be empty without them.’
Now the pair love to play and cool down in the family’s garden pond, but Fanny says people are still often shocked when she reveals the Westies’ backstory.

‘My whole family loves them so much, they bring joy to our home.
‘For us, their uniqueness is a reason to love them even more.’
