A man caught having rough sex with a screeching dog while choking it told the owner he was just hugging the stricken animal, police say.

Chevance Smith, 24, was found in EL Paso, Texas engaging in sexual contact with an 8-month-old female boxer-pit bull mix named Meda on Saturday, police said. Smith allegedly told the owner ‘I didn’t know you had dibbs on the dog,’ when he was caught in the disgusting act, KFOX 14 reported. Meda’s owners allegedly heard screeching sounds outside in the middle of the night and found Smith with his genitals out and his boxers pulled down.

He was holding the dog’s rear with one hand and choking the dog with his other hand, while lying on the ground next to her, police documents said.

Smith then stood up and said, ‘What? I’m just hugging Meda.’

He allegedly offered money to the owners and begged them not to tell anyone about what they had seen, police said.

After the owner called police, Smith allegedly became aggressive and tried to punch the owner, documents said.

Family members and other witnesses allegedly held down Smith until police arrived on scene.

Meda’s genitals were swollen and bleeding after the owner found Smith with the dog, police said.

A veterinarian found that the dog had suffered from genital injuries and trauma that matched with what the owner had witnessed.

Smith was charged with bestiality and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $7500 bond. The Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit of the El Paso Police Department investigated the incident.
