CURTIN University’s therapy dog George has been made redundant during his busiest time of the year as students face the anxious exam period.

George, a certified therapy dog, was brought to campus by his owner Shirley Bode, where he became an official Curtin wellness activity, providing students with stress-relieving pats and cuddles, reports WA Today.

But Wednesday marked the dog’s last day, as his owner, an associate professor at Curtin’s Business School, was made redundant.

Ms Bode said she was heartbroken at the news and the bad timing.

“We’re just coming into exam period now and this will be the peak period students want him around,” she said.

“I’m heartbroken because I do like the students and this is all for them ... I get nothing from this apart from the joy of making students happy.”
