A heartbroken dog was was photographed waiting by his owner’s hospital bed, not realising he had passed away.The picture of Moose, a three-year-old Labrador mix, was shared online by North Star Pet Rescue, a charity in New Jersey, in hopes of finding him a new home. Its caption read: ‘Moose sat patiently next to his dad’s hospital bed, waiting for him to return, not knowing that “Dad” had passed away.

‘Please help Moose find a new home and a family for him to love. He’s a sweet happy boy by nature. He just needs people to help his heart heal.’
The post added that Moose ‘adores kids’, is okay with other dogs, but doesn’t like birds and cats.

But it placed emphasis on his love of people, stating that he would do best in a house where he ‘wasn’t left home alone all day long’.
It was later updated to add that ‘through the power of social media’ Eleventh Hour Rescue, the kennel currently looking after the dog, had already received several applications for his care.
