A dog that mauled a 12-day-old baby to death was so strong it pulled three police officers into the street, a witness said.Cops wrestled to pull the dog away from the scene after it attacked the newborn baby boy at a property in Doncaster. He died later from his injuries in hospital.
A man, 35, and a woman, 27, were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, following the incident on Sunday afternoon.Sally Hooley, who was driving past as the dog was being taken away by police, said: ‘The dog was a big fluffy golden dog, it looked harmless at first glance. I couldn’t tell you the breed but three police officers were struggling to control it to get it into the dog van.
‘The dog was strong enough to be dragging three officers into the road. It’s so, so sad.
‘It looked like a big fluffy harmless dog. At the end of the day the parents will never get over the loss of their child.’Police confirmed the dog was a crossbreed and it was removed. It is understood it was part Akita.
It is the second tragedy to hit the family in less than two years, revealed a neighbour, as devastated residents left floral tributes outside the home.

Another said the older children – two boys and the youngest, a girl – were ‘lovely and polite’ and ‘well cared for’.
They said: ‘It is heartbreaking, it’s just shocking. It’s a tragedy upon a tragedy.
‘Her previous partner was such a loving father and appeared to be great around the house, we would always see him hanging the washing out and doing his bit.
‘They just looked like such a lovely family, they were always together and always happy.’South Yorkshire Police rushed to the home in Woodlands at 3.30pm on Sunday after reports that a child had been attacked by a dog.
The dog was later removed from the address, the force added.
A neighbour said that they did not know the breed of the dog but that it was ‘very big’ and ‘not something you’d want around small children’.
