A horrified mother found her cat five-foot up a bramble bush after being savaged to death by dogs .

Eleanor Marrett said her six-year-old cat Jess was covered in bite marks when she discovered her lifeless body. She believes Jess was targeted by sick thugs after neighbours heard a cat squealing in the early hours of Saturday.

They also saw two hooded men with two dogs. One of the men was seen wiping a dog’s face and mouth before the pair hurried up the road.

Eleanor, from Cottingham, East Yorkshire, said: ‘I was absolutely gutted. Anyone who knows me knows that my animals mean the world to me.

‘We had Jess since she was eight weeks old and she was very much a stay in the garden kind of cat.

‘All the children from Croxby used to stroke her. She would sit on the path waiting for them all to fuss her.’

She added: ‘They had obviously taken her off the dog and thrown her into what they thought was an overgrown ditch, but she didn’t fall down.

Yummy! Dogs have about 1,700 taste buds. Humans have approximately 9,000 and cats have around 473.

‘We as a family are so upset, as are my neighbours and their girls. My youngest daughter was so upset she was sick.

‘I’m just grateful we found her and could lay her to rest.’

Eleanor now hopes the police will ‘take it seriously’ and find those responsible.

She added: ‘They made fox hunting illegal. Surely dogs ripping apart a family pet isn’t legal?

‘Maybe some sort of Facebook group should be set up to see which areas are being targeted.

‘The owners, if found guilty, should get their dogs taken off them. I’m sure the dog must have a scratched face.’
