Older dogs are often left behind in rescues.

With people often wanting to adopt a puppy, it can be harder for the more senior animals to get a look in with potential adopters.

But, thanks to some creative staff at one rescue, they are getting their moment to shine.

At the Flagler Humane Society branch in Florida, the staff have come up with an ingenious way to encourage people to notice their older pooches.

In a series of adorable photos on their Instagram, the senior dogs looking for happy homes are dressed in an assortment of wigs, hats, jumpers and other accessories that make them look like human old people.

Dressed to the nines, these lucky dogs command attention with their well-accessorised outfits that would be fit for a human.

The photographs were then posted along with a bio describing each dog’s unique qualities.

The scheme is part of the shelter’s ‘Adopt a Senior Pet Month’, which is running throughout November in an attempt to encourage people to adopt the older dogs who are more difficult to rehome.

INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOUR PET: The Saluki is the world’s oldest dog breed. They appear in ancient Egyptian tombs dating back to 2100 B.C.

The idea brought them lots of attention on social media and has been a huge success.

The shelter reports all but three of their senior dogs have now found new, loving homes.

Proof there’s life in the old dogs yet.
