Mr Allain closed the video saying: “Thank you very much for coming in, we will get back to you.”

Is it a duck…or a dog? The Newfoundland breed has a water resistant coat and webbed feet. This dog was originally bred to help haul nets for fishermen and rescuing people at risk of drowning.

Karen then tries to usher the dog away, but Nutmeg was still engrossed in the meeting at hand.

The video has been making the rounds on Twitter captioned: “We’ve just interviewed a dog for an opening as our dog.”

The video was followed by subsequent tweets: “I'm sorry to introduce a sour note as this was supposed to be fun, but I feel utterly betrayed. It turns out Karen has gone behind my back and brought Nutmeg in to replace ME.

Another joked: “She will probably take the lead.”

In other dog news this week, one mischievous Labrador left vets flabbergasted when they found he had consumed a whole badger.
