Owner fuming over dog’s £250 botched hairdo

A dog owner was left furious after her pet walked out of the groomer’s half bald and looking like a ‘joke’ after a £250 haircut.

Leanne Mearns, 27, from Bebington, the Wirral, said she was gobsmacked when she picked up her Shih Tzu, Gizmo, and called the groomers ‘bang out of order’ for the ‘uneven’ new do.

She added: ‘My poor dog looks a mess and he knows it himself.’

The owner said Gizmo is so terrified of getting his haircut that she had booked him in to have all his fur shaved off, after he had been sedated at the vets beforehand.

She forked out hundreds for the treatment at Broadway Vets, in the town of Heswall, on March 13.

Despite the price tag, Leanne, who works in McColl’s, was happy to pay it because she ‘loves her dogs more than anything’.

But the dog lover was shocked when she collected little Gizmo, having brought mini jumpers with her to keep her newly bald pet warm.

It appears there had been a misunderstanding over the owner’s request to have Gizmo completely shaven all over, after he was left with an ‘uneven’ cut.

Leanne, who also owns a Lhasa Apso called Isobel, said: ‘We just want the dog to look normal. It’s bang out of order – it’s not fair on him.’

Broadway Vets told Liverpool Echo they were unable to comment on specific details due to client confidentiality but stated that they had offered a solution in this case.

Leanne said: ‘I love my dogs more than anything and was 100% fine with paying £250 for a fur cut but what we got back was a joke.

‘£250 is a lot of money for one fur cut and as any dog lover will know, a groom is not just a one-time thing. Does this mean every time my fur baby needs grooming I will have to pay this much for a cut this bad?’

Broadway Vets emailed Leanne on Friday to offer her a corrective haircut for Gizmo to have all of his hair removed, free of charge, as a gesture of good will.

However, Leanne has refused to take her pet back to the vets after the first cut.
