Ikea opens its doors to help protect stray dogs from the rain

Workers at an Ikea in Italy have transformed the store into a makeshift shelter for stray dogs with nowhere else to go.

Visitors to the store in Catania filmed the dogs peacefully sleeping in Ikea’s show rooms.

Vittoria Taccia Gabrielli, who posted the video on Facebook after it was taken by her daughter Martine, said the animals were brought inside as it was raining.

She wrote: ‘A nice initiative to give shelter to strays while outside raning.’

Since it was posted last week, the short clip has been viewed nearly a million times.

Speaking to The Dodo , Martine said: ‘My reaction was pure amazement. It’s not a common thing.’

‘The dogs receive daily food and pampering from Ikea’s employees and customers. Some dogs have even found a family, going home with customers.’

Having a rest on Ikea’s soft rugs certainly beats life on the streets – and the dogs have also become a hit on Instagram, with many shoppers posting photos of them chilling out.
