Pick up a small artificial wreath and customize it to your pup’s personality (food-themes and fire hydrants are always a safe bet). Hang it up right on the dog house. Depending on how big your wreath is, an hanging ideal spot it is right above the entrance or on the side of your outdoor dog house.

Holiday lights are a must-have when it comes to the holiday season, and your pup’s abode is no different. You can have the lights outline all edges of the roof of the dog house or just line them up on the topmost edge. A word of caution: If your dog is prone to chewing on cords and cables, it’s best to skip the lights.

For those cool winter days when we just want to bundle up, a soft blanket is a must. American Kennel Club’s micro Sherpa pet blanket fits the bill for your favorite pup as it’s designed to help keep pets warm, and it comes in a festive shade of red.

Note: If you have an outdoor dog house, never leave your dog unsupervised for too long in cold temperatures… blanket or no blanket. (Same goes for hot temperatures or any extreme weather for that matter.)

Add a little glow to your dog crate by hanging lights on an adjacent wall. Shape the lights in a decorative pattern like a holiday tree, stocking or star. Make sure the lights are out of reach from your dog’s mouth.

A canine holiday-themed wreath can go right on the cage door as the perfect welcome for your spirited pet. Use zip ties to hang the wreath and be sure it’s nice and tight. When leaving your pup in her dog crate, take the wreath off so she doesn’t chew on it when you’re gone.

Holiday Decorating Safety

Before you pull out your ornaments, garland and other seasonal decorations, make sure they’re pup-proof. Here are some suggestions for dog-friendly holiday decorations below:

  • Shatter-proof ornaments—Protect mouths that like to chew.
  • Artificial wreath, tree and plants—Certain plants are harmful or toxic to dogs.
  • NO tinsel—Tinsel presents a choking hazard to dogs and can get stuck in their digestive tract.

Always supervise your dog when she’s around her holiday decorations.

Now that you’ve decorated your dog house and dog crate, you can continue with even more holiday cheer. Check out some stylish dog clothes for the winter or spoil her with dog-friendly gingerbread cookies.
